textField= “Once the Rolling Green,” Scott’s debut release as a soloist, consists entirely of original compositions in the Celtic style for solo guitar.* The music on this disc is highly melodic and incorporates a wide variety of textures which includes, but is not limited to, hymn-like sequences, pedals, rhythmically driven bass lines, rasqueado, and two and three-part baroque counterpoint both artfully and tastefully laid over traditional vocal, dance, and instrumental forms. The pieces are perhaps best described as classically treated folk compositions, and, though not intended as strictly traditional works, they are all unmistakably Celtic and range from complex and technically challenging to simple and charming. Each performance exhibits depth of interpretation, and, from the fast and daring jigs and reels to the slow and sublime airs, Scott executes each note with the tone and touch exhibited only by the mature guitarist. This work is the culmination of nearly thirteen months of researching, writing, and recording and, though a debut, comes after twenty-eight years of guitar playing and music training…the result is an exceptional, rare, and enchantingly beautiful recording. Painstaking efforts were taken in creating the packaging, which includes an original watercolor by Tulsa artist Ellen Shannon, additional pen and ink drawings by Scott, photographs, and an eight page booklet complete with liner notes which give insights into how the compositions came to be. In the music world there are few players who release a disc consisting entirely of their own original music for the solo classical guitar. With this recording, Scott joins a small circle of guitarists, and becomes the first Oklahoman to do so…and in outstanding fashion! *Scott is, like many residents of his native Oklahoma, of Irish American and Native American descent. &
